We left Mauritius. All the packing was done and the shipping sent on ahead. We set off to Madagascar for a 10-day holiday with two suitcases.
It was fantastic, and so different to anywhere I had been before. It was very poor, very African. The city was awful, with kids begging everywhere. The poverty was awful. But the countryside and the sights were amazing. We did two big road trips on a minibus with friends. Thirteen-hour trips on horrific roads. We saw a lot of the countryside and people living in mud huts, poor but okay and living off the land. There was no electricity out in the countryside and we were driving at night in the pitch black. We did stay at a couple of nice hotels on the coast and the kids had a great time with their friends. I loved it. It was the holiday of a lifetime. And then we came home.

Back in the UK – it was freezing cold! We stayed at Mum’s for four days and then moved into Helen and Iain’s annexe for a couple of weeks before we could get our rented-out house back in Cuddington. During this time, I went to see a different consultant in Nantwich for a second opinion. He was of the same view, unfortunately, that it was MND.
